Catholic Priest Frightened As Masked Men Invade Parish

The Parish Priest of the Yeji Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Dery is traumatized and currently living in fear after masked armed men numbering about three, allegedly invaded the compound of the Catholic mission house at Yeji, in the Bono East Region.

The incident occurred last Saturday night and comes few days after the gruesome murder of a security guard at the Yeji branch of the Brong Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD), also a credit union owned by the Catholic Church in the town.

The armed men who scaled the fenced wall of the mission house, abandoned the house several minutes after they failed to gain entry.

An informant had told the Parish Priest hours after the armed men had left while he watched them from his hideout

At the time of the incident, the Parish Priest, two seminarians, and a cook, were in the house.

The case has since been reported to the Police in the area who confirmed to MyNewGh.com but indicated that investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the armed men are yet to be identified and it’s not immediately known whether they were there to rob or kill.

The incident has sent shock waves among members of the Catholic community in the town who are wondering whether their church has been targeted for such attacks.

New security arrangements are underway to secure the mission house from repeated incidents especially at a time there are warnings of possible terrorist attacks.
