Former president Mahama has urged Akufo-Addo to come for a “rematch” in election 2020.
He said he was ready to conquer the president in the rematch – Mahama said the 2020 election will be the final decider of who the champion is between him and Akufo-Addo.
Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged President Akufo-Addo to contest as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate in the coming 2020 elections.
John Mahama likened election 2020 to boxing, and said even though Akufo-Addo has not decided yet on leading the NPP to 2020 polls, he is urging him to consider running so he Mahama can conquer him.
The former president reportedly made this call when he was speaking with his party delegates in the Nkoranza South Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region during a campaign tour.
According to him, the 2020 polls will be the final decider between him and President Akufo Addo as to who the champion really is.
This is contained in a report from Citinewsroom.com.
“I am begging President Nana Akufo Addo to contest in the next polls. In boxing, the first fight is called the title fight. If you win that fight and your opponent wants another one, it is called a rematch.”
“This is similar to what happened in 2012 when I beat Nana Addo in the polls. In 2016 however, I was defeated. In the 2020 elections, it will be tantamount to a decider in boxing since we have both won the election once, the next poll will determine who the champion really is,” John Mahama stated.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said he is yet to decide and inform his party if he will be contesting the 2020 elections.
According to the 74-year-old, there have been moves by the NPP to get him to contest as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2020 polls, but he was yet to make a final decision.
