Since September last year, Jennifer Lomotey hitmaker, Kurl Songx, has been giving hints of a not so good a relationship with the boss of Highly Spiritual, Kaywa, indicating that the label is not giving him much attention.
The comments got many bashing Kurl Songx for not showing appreciation to the sound engineer/producer who has supported his music career and brought him into the limelight.
Kurl Songx was compelled to publicly apologise for his unfortunate comments on his Instagram page which gave the impression that the simmering tension had settled.
That, obviously was not to be as the Trumpet singer made headlines again last month accusing Kaywa of giving the song, Dw3, which was his intellectual property to Krymi and Mr Drew who are on the Highly Spiritual label.
In the heat of the controversy, Kurl Songx dropped a new song, Tunnel Light produced by Apya which came with a video. Interestingly, the Highly Spiritual logo was missing in the video with Kurls Music, a new record label, rather on it.
Kurls Music is said to be his and there is indication that Kurl Songx is joining the long list of artistes who are setting up their own record labels.
However, many believe it is just a move to rival Kaywa and his former record label but speaking with Graphic Showbiz recently, Kurl Songx said he was not in competition with anyone.
“I will be an ingrate if my aim of setting up a record label is to rival Kaywa and Highly Spiritual Music. There is no need for any rivalry or competition because Kaywa has contributed a lot to my music success.
“In any human relationship, there are bound to be disagreements and so what happened between Kaywa and I is not strange, however, I feel uncomfortable when people try to pit us against each other.
“For instance, when people realised that my new song didn’t have the logo of Highly Spiritual but Kurls Music, it was misinterpreted that I wanted to rival Kaywa but the question is, what will I gain from doing that? I don’t think it is a good trend to create unnecessary tension between my boss and I and it must not be encouraged,” he stated.
Luck smiled on Kurl Songx in 2016 when he won MTN Hitmaker and entered the music scene with his controversial song, Jennifer Lomotey featuring Sarkodie.
That got him a lot of attention and plaudits and many, including the artiste himself, had anticipated a flourishing music career.
However, his performance hasn’t been encouraging, particularly when artistes such as KiDi and Kuami Eugene who he started with are still a force to reckon with.
Graphic Showbiz asked if people should expect any change in the trajectory of his music career as he had started his own record label and this is what he had to say.
“I cannot succeed if I don’t get support. It will be like doing business in darkness so I’m using this chance to rally for support for my music career. I’m young and talented and if I get the necessary support for my works, I will surely be at the top and that is what I’m praying for.
“All I can say now is that there is a new Kurl Songx with a new direction who has left the past behind and is looking into a very positive future. All I need is the support of Ghanaians and then, success will be my new story,” he stated.
