The Deep Place Makes Ghana Proud In Turkey

The Deep Place, a movie produced in Ghana makes Ghana proud by grabbing an award at the 7th edition of the Hakis International Short Film Festival held in Ankara, Turkey on Thursday.
The event organised by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with HAK-IS saw Mawuko and his team cling third place award with the short film “The Deep Place” in the International Category.
The movie directed by Lindsay Branham had actors such as Brian Angels and newcomers in the persons of Louis, Godwin and some others.
Mawuko Kuadzi who was the Line Producer and Casting Director represented the team at the awards ceremony in Turkey.
The 2017 movie was funded by the International Justice Mission(IJM) and has won several awards in the past including
Clio Silver Award for best Cinematography 2018, ADC Silver Cube Award for Best Online Film 2018 and many others.
A total of one thousand four hundred movies were submitted in this year’s edition of the contest with 208 of those submissions being Turkish-made movies and the rest submitted from 128 other countries across the globe.

From the art world, the famous directors Mesut Uçakan, Ulvi Alacakaptan, İsmail Güneş, famous actress Ahmet Yenilmez, Yusuf Sezgin, Hacı Ali Konuk, M. Emin Kadıhan, Yüksel Ünal, Fatih Küçük were present at the ceremony where she made a colorful appearance with her participation. Directors and arts personalities from Ghana, Bangladesh, Latvia, the Philippines, India, Iran, England, Kyrgyzstan and other parts of the world were also present at the grand event held at Ankara Hilton Garden Inn Hotel.


HAK-İŞ, one of the largest labour confederations of Turkey, in 2012 progressed in a new dimension to the works carried out by considering hand labour, brain power; art and crafts together and organized a short film contest themed “Respect for Labor”. By taking courage from intense interest and the high level of the qualities of products HAK-İŞ has decided to organize this contest every year in order to find out a reflection of defended principles at the image world.
HAK-İŞ Traditional Short Film Contest held its 6th edition in 2017 and decided to extend the contest to the international arena. The title of the contest is again “LABOR” as it was in the past and will be in the future. The contest is organized to increase the number of films on “Labor” and to create a platform where the “labouring” producers can come together.
